Award-Winning Chef Shows Underprivileged Children How to Prepare Tasty Easter Dessert

Underprivileged children learnt from an award-winning chef on how to prepare and garnish a dessert dish at the Yummy Easter Carnival organised by HKR Care & Share, the corporate volunteer team of HKR International Limited.

In celebration of the upcoming Easter and to bring fun and love to around 25 children from the T.W.G.Hs Residential Child Care Services, HKR Care & Share hosted a party for them on 16 April 2011. Most of the children came from families that are unable to provide them with sufficient care due to family problems or crisis resulting from illness or death.

At the party, the children teamed up with about 20 volunteers from HKR Care & Share to prepare the Easter dessert – a yummy rabbit made from marshmallow. They watched keenly as Mr Deki Leung, Executive Chef of Discovery Bay Residents Club, showed them how to garnish the rabbit. With the help of volunteers, the children carefully put colourful custard cream on the rabbits, showcasing their amazing creativity. While Chef Leung picked the four most beautiful rabbits and presented each of their "creators" a prize, other children couldn’t wait to devour their own creations!

In addition to preparing the lovely Easter dessert, the children also enjoyed themselves very much playing Easter-themed group games with the volunteers. The party ended with a simple and delicious buffet lunch.

Yummy Easter Carnival was filled with fun and laughter, bringing both the children and the volunteers a very memorable and enjoyable time! HKR Care & Share will continue to collaborate with other social service organisations to serve the community.
