HKR International Fully Supports Earth Hour 2023

Go the Extra Mile with “Light OFF Power UP 2.0” Employee Engagement Campaign

HKR International Limited ("HKRI") and its subsidiaries participated in a global movement “Earth Hour” initiated by World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF) with an array of green actions. The Group also rolled out an internal engagement campaign titled “Light OFF Power UP 2.0” and rallied employees to live out the spirit of “Earth Hour” and encouraged them to switch off power while boosting personal wellness to build a carbon-neutral and sustainable future.

Since the inauguration of Earth Hour in 2007, the campaign has been aimed to raise public awareness of climate change and environmental issues through “lights-off” activity. As an ongoing supporter of Earth Hour, HKRI endeavours to go the extra mile. This year, the Group rolled out “Light OFF Power UP 2.0” campaign to further expand the impact of Earth Hour.

On 25 March, at 8:30pm local time, over 20 HKRI’s properties including shopping malls, hotels, commercial, residential and clubhouses in Hong Kong, mainland of China and Thailand turned off unnecessary lights in public areas for 60 minutes. Through this cross-region and inter-departmental initiative, the Group hopes to call for employees to embrace the beauty of nature in the darkness, thereby raising awareness of climate change and sustainable development.

Adhering to the corporate values of "Valuing the individual and cherishing the environment" and "Consistency in the pursuit of our quality standards", HKRI also promoted a one-week " DIY Power UP" internal campaign to promote the importance of green living and wellness. From 20 to 25 March, the Group encouraged employees to turn off their computers during lunch break and practise meditation to reduce stress. After work or at weekends, employees are encouraged to invite their family members and friends to stay away from electronic devices, and exercise more or get closer to the nature.

The second part of "Light OFF Power UP 2.0" is a photo sharing activity which invites employees to submit photos of their green living moments. HKRI has committed to donating HK$10 to WWF Hong Kong for every entry received. With this, we hope to motivate teams across subsidiaries to integrate green actions into daily work and life in their own way, living the spirit of energy saving and carbon reduction in everyday life.

HKRI always strives for sustainable development and integrates it into its business philosophy. As a pioneer of sustainable, integrated residential development in Asia, Discovery Bay - the Group’s flagship project in Hong Kong, has already incorporated Earth Hour into its monthly regular activity. Operations in Discovery Bay also adopted the sustainability concept in its facility modification and supply chain optimisation to promote a low-carbon lifestyle and realise its sustainable development goals.

Sustainable development is a fundamental part of HKRI’s vision, mission and core values. Upholding the Group’s PRI2DE values, the goal is to build sustainable, livable and caring communities that people are proud to be an integral part of. Sustainable operation plays an essential role in creating stylish and distinctive living experiences. Over the years, the Group has deepened its effort in ESG fields, showing its determination and commitment towards carbon reduction and environmental protection.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of HKRI, with the anniversary theme “Together We Fortify”, the Group strives to collaborate with charities, non-profit organisations and corporates sharing the same vision and goals to shape a better, brighter future for the society with concerted effort.
